# The Chrome extension, in depth

> Walk one toy truck through every number the Chrome extension shows.

> [!NOTE]
>
> **Scenario for this page:** Arctic Fox hair dye (B07QMZ5JKX), a product in the demo store's Vault with a \$6.91 buy cost. Amazon approves the demo store to sell it. Open its Amazon page with the extension signed in to the demo login. The pictures show the hair dye; the page walks through a made-up toy truck with other numbers.

You are on Amazon.com, looking at a made-up toy called "Red Hauler Toy Truck". Its product code, called an **ASIN**, is "B0HAULER01". The brand is "SunnyHaul", and the category is "Toys & Games".

The box is 12.0 × 12.0 × 1.2 inches, and it weighs 1.00 lb. You pay \$8.00 at the store. The Buy Box price is \$25.00, and an FBA seller holds it. The Buy Box is the offer Amazon puts in the buy box on the page.

This walk is in October. You set these calculator numbers:

* **Prep per item** is \$0.50.
* **Inbound shipping per lb** is \$0.50.
* **Sales tax on cost (%)** is 8.
* **Months in storage** is 1.
* **Inbound placement** is **Minimal shipment splits**.
* **Lowest ROI you want (%)** is 30.
* **Lowest profit you want** is \$5.00.
* **Sale price used for profit** is **Buy Box, FBA sellers only**.
* **Use peak storage fees** is off.

The truck is not in your Vault yet, so ROI is profit divided by the \$8.00 you pay. Your Amazon store is connected, so the referral fee and the fulfillment fee are Amazon's own quote.

A short map of the extension is on [the Chrome extension page](https://docs.sourcedock.io/reference/chrome-extension.md).

## Where the panel sits

On an amazon.com or amazon.ca product page, the panel sits on the page once you are signed in and have agreed. It starts **Docked above the Buy Box**. **Pin (stays in view while scrolling)** keeps it in view while you scroll.

![The SourceDock Profit panel with the tabs Profit, Vault, Purchase and Account, the Product section for ARCTIC FOX Semi-Permanent Hair Color Blue Jean Baby, and Quick info below it.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/01-hairdye-panel.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=b7a9bbbe5f377ebf4ff2b73ce024cc92)

Hair dye: the panel docked above the Buy Box. Notice the four tabs and the Product and Quick info sections.

![The top bar with SourceDock Profit on the left and four small buttons on the right.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/02-hairdye-header.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=901a1b3e6bc5c8cbaf05c15efdcafb35)

Hair dye: the panel's top bar. Notice the four buttons on the right: pin, side panel, minimize and hide.

![A hover box that reads Pin (stays in view while scrolling).](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/02b-hairdye-pin-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=65fed3d0b54dd00ce3df12d9a8cc421f)

Hair dye: the pin button's hover. Notice it says the panel stays in view while you scroll.

**Minimize (it stays minimized until opened again)** folds it, and **Show the panel** opens it again. **Hide (Alt+Shift+S shows it again)** hides it. Alt+Shift+S is the suggested key.

Drag the panel's top bar to move it anywhere. While you drag, a dashed box shows where it docks. Drop it on the dashed box to dock it, or press **Put it back above the Buy Box**. One more button **Opens the full panel in Chrome's side panel.**

![A hover box that reads Opens the full panel in Chrome's side panel.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/02c-hairdye-side-panel-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=9315a11083a1ca1022220cd90be5f906)

Hair dye: the side panel button's hover.

Pick **Only in the side panel** under **Where the panel shows on Amazon** to keep it off the page.

The panel on the page has four tabs: **Profit**, **Vault**, **Purchase**, and **Account**. Chrome's side panel adds **Find**. On Amazon, **Find** is last. On a store page, **Find** is first, and the side panel opens there. Anywhere else, it opens on **Profit**.

![Four tabs: Profit, Vault, Purchase and Account, with Profit picked.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/03-hairdye-tabs.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=ac29b631230df9271cb03e82754199cd)

Hair dye: the panel's tabs. Notice Profit is open.

The side panel's header says **SourceDockIQ**. Point at the dot to see **Connecting...**, **Connected**, **Disconnected**, or **Reconnecting...**. The version sits beside it, like "v1.7.1111", and the gear opens **Settings**.

The panel never shows on Amazon's cart, checkout, or sign-in pages.

## The product row

**Product** is always first. The title is "Red Hauler Toy Truck". Under it you see **Brand** "SunnyHaul", then "Toys & Games".

![The Product section: ARCTIC FOX Semi-Permanent Hair Color Blue Jean Baby - Cruelty-Free - 8 oz, Brand ARCTIC FOX, Beauty & Personal Care, ASIN B07QMZ5JKX, a row of icons, a green Vault badge, and Size Height 1.42 in, Width 3.06 in, Length 6.76 in, Weight 1.36 lb, Standard size.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/04-hairdye-product.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=e46d98aee18fa24ff79010fdc9c65943)

Hair dye: the Product row. The picture shows the demo product, not the truck. Notice the brand, the category, the ASIN with its copy button, the icon row, the Vault badge and the size lines.

Next come the page's stars, 4.6 of them, with "128" beside them. The hover says **Amazon's star rating and how many people rated it.** and "4.6 out of 5 stars from 128 ratings." Under 4.0 stars, the stars and the count turn the warning color. The hover then adds **Low rating, so check the reviews for problems before buying.** A page with no stars says **No ratings yet**.

**ASIN** "B0HAULER01" and **UPC** "860555010018" each have a copy button. A UPC is the barcode. After you copy, the tip says **Copied**.

The icon tips are **Search Amazon for this product**, **Search Google for this product**, **Search Google Shopping for this product**, **Open this product on Keepa**, **Search Walmart for this product**, and **Open in SourceDock**. Each one opens a new tab. The plus button is **Add to Purchases**, and it opens the **Purchase** tab.

![A hover box that reads Open this product on Keepa.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/06-hairdye-keepa-icon-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=4e793a523d19ede045b1fcb6c00ea5a2)

Hair dye: one icon's hover. Notice each icon names where it opens.

The **Vault** badge is struck through, and its hover says **Not in the Vault. Click to add.** After you add the truck, the badge is solid. The hover then says **In the Vault. Click to see or change it.**

![A hover box that reads In the Vault. Click to see or change it.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/07-hairdye-vault-badge-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=b41fdcc844548f6b9be737d33db3b6b9)

Hair dye: the Vault badge's hover. The hair dye is already in the demo store's Vault, so the badge is solid.

**Size (L × W × H)** is "12.0 × 12.0 × 1.2 in", longest side first. The hover says **Amazon's package size, length × width × height, longest side first.** **Weight** is "1.00 lb".

The size class is **Standard size**. On amazon.com, that means inside 18 × 14 × 8 inches and 20 lb. Bigger than that, it says **Oversize**.

## Quick info

**Quick info** is next. Here is the order on the screen.

![Quick info: Approval Approved, Sales rank #34,389, Sold a month 300+, Max cost \$6.42, Your cost 6.91, Sale price 19.86, Profit \$4.51, Margin 22.7%, ROI 65.3%, Break-even \$14.55, and the FBA and FBM switch with FBA on.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/08-hairdye-quick-info.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=63d8a361ddfebecbbca7813e8fc1ea40)

Hair dye: Quick info. The numbers are the demo product's, not the truck's. Notice Approved, Max cost $6.42, Your cost 6.91 from the Vault, and a profit of $4.51 shown in yellow because it misses the \$5.00 goal.

**Approval** says **Approved**, so your Amazon account can sell this truck. The other answers are **Needs approval** and **Blocked**. With your store connected and no answer yet, SourceDock checks by itself when you open the product. The cell says **Checking...** while it works. If that check doesn't finish, you see **Check now**, and its hover says **Not checked**.

**Sales rank** is "#4,200". A sales rank is Amazon's best-seller number. A lower number sells faster.

![A hover box that reads Amazon's best sellers rank for this product. A lower number sells faster.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/09-hairdye-sales-rank-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=b5e972f23084a39aeda6df4f0621b517)

Hair dye: the ? beside Sales rank.

**Sold a month** is "2K+". Amazon's page said "2K+ bought in past month", and the panel keeps the short form. The hover says **Amazon's "bought in past month" on this product's page.**

![A hover box that reads How many Amazon says were bought in the past month, from the product's page.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/10-hairdye-sold-a-month-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=26a99f824229b7b1661e65493e5b3fe1)

Hair dye: the ? beside Sold a month. Notice this product shows Amazon's own number from the product's page, 300+.

If the page has no badge but Amazon gave a rank, you may see an estimate from the rank, like "≈ 1,200/mo (est)". If Amazon gave no rank and your store is connected, the cell says **N/A**. With no store and no badge, the cell is hidden. SourceDock will not guess.

**Max cost** is "\$9.64". The math is below. Your \$8.00 is under it, so the cell is green.

![A hover box that reads The most to pay for one item and still meet the goals in Settings.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/11-hairdye-max-cost-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=fa82f3ab4b40245925963dc7c7623428)

Hair dye: the ? beside Max cost.

**Your cost** is "8.00", and a blank box shows "0.00". If a product is in your Vault, **Your cost** fills from the Vault's buy cost. Its hover then says **From your Vault. Type to change it.** Prices you type for a product come back when you open it again on this computer.

**Sale price** is "25.00". Point at the label to see who has the Buy Box, "Amazon.com" with an **FBA** badge, then **Buy Box now**.

![A hover box with a green FBA badge and the words Buy Box now.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/12-hairdye-sale-price-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=8035af20dca3a3f21f08af3cd9862029)

Hair dye: pointing at Sale price. Notice the FBA badge and Buy Box now.

Then four cells:

| Cell | What you see |
| - | - |
| **Profit** | \$6.77 |
| **Margin** | 27.1% |
| **ROI** | 84.6% |
| **Break-even** | \$17.03 |

**Profit** is what you keep on one sale. **Margin** is that profit divided by the sale price. **ROI** is that profit divided by your \$8.00.

**Break-even** here is a sale price, not a cost. Its hover says **Selling for less than this loses money.** It also says "The break-even cost is \$14.26."

![A hover box that reads Selling for less than this loses money. The break-even cost is \$11.42.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/13-hairdye-break-even-tip.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=5cce907d95d1b8591e67afc5728c411f)

Hair dye: Break-even's hover. Notice it also names the break-even cost.

All three result cells are green, since profit is over \$5.00 and ROI is over 30%. A loss is red. A profit that misses a goal is yellow. A goal of 0 means you set no goal.

Under that, **FBA** is on. FBA means Amazon ships it. **FBM** means you ship it.

## Where the \$25.00 comes from

**Sale price used for profit** picks the price. Its choices are **Buy Box, FBA sellers only**, **Buy Box, any seller**, and **Lowest FBA**. It starts on **Buy Box, FBA sellers only**. Its **?** says **FBA sellers only uses the Buy Box price when an FBA seller has it. Any seller uses the Buy Box price whoever has it. With no Buy Box, it uses the lowest FBA price, then the lowest FBM price. Lowest FBA uses the lowest price an FBA seller offers, even when someone has the Buy Box. In the Vault, you can pick a different one for one product.**

**Buy Box, FBA sellers only** uses the FBA Buy Box: an FBA seller holds the box. That is the truck's \$25.00. When no FBA seller holds the box, the panel uses this product's Sell in your Vault, then the lowest FBA offer, and the hover says **No FBA seller has the Buy Box, so this uses this product's Sell in your Vault.** or **No FBA seller has the Buy Box, so this uses the lowest FBA offer.** With neither, it says **No FBA seller has the Buy Box. Type a sale price.**

**Buy Box, any seller** tries these prices and stops at the first one Amazon gives:

1. The FBA Buy Box. An FBA seller holds the box.
2. The Buy Box when no FBA seller holds it.
3. The lowest FBA offer.
4. The lowest offer from a seller who ships it themselves.

**Lowest FBA** starts with the lowest FBA offer, even when someone holds the Buy Box. If no FBA seller offers it, it falls back to the **Buy Box, any seller** list. The hover then says **No FBA seller offers it right now, so this is the Buy Box price.**

The panel on the product page can use the Buy Box price printed on the page. On **Buy Box, FBA sellers only**, it does so only when an FBA seller holds the box. That page price is newer than Amazon's last answer. Chrome's side panel can't read the page, so its sale price can be different. The panel figures the fees at the page price on your computer and never sends that price. With **Lowest FBA** picked, it waits for Amazon's answer.

Amazon's prices are the item plus shipping. The page price is the item price only. This panel does not use a 90-day average. The Vault can, so a Vault max cost can be lower than this one.

If Amazon gives no price, type one. The line you see depends on why:

* **Connect your store to see Amazon's price, or type a sale price.**
* **Reconnect Amazon to see prices, or type a sale price.**
* **Amazon's prices didn't load. Type a sale price.**
* **Nobody is selling this new on Amazon right now. Type a sale price.**
* **Amazon didn't give a price for this product. Type a sale price.**

On FBM, the line is **No seller ships this themselves. Type a sale price.**

Type over the box, and a button puts the market price back. It names the price in use, like "Buy Box \$25.00", "Lowest FBA \$25.00", or "Lowest FBM \$20.00".

## Each fee on this truck

Open **Total fees** in the calculator. The lines, in order, are:

| Line | Amount | How it is worked out |
| - | - | - |
| **Referral fee** | \$3.75 | 15% of \$25.00 |
| **FBA fulfillment fee** | \$4.00 | Amazon's quote for this sale |
| **Storage fee** (0.10 cu ft x 1 months) | \$0.24 | 0.10 cubic feet × \$2.40 |
| **Inbound placement fee** (**estimated**) | \$0.60 | Highest listed rate for this box |
| **Inbound shipping** (1.00 lb x \$0.50/lb) | \$0.50 | 1.00 × \$0.50 |
| **Prep** | \$0.50 | Your prep setting |
| **Sales tax** | \$0.64 | 8% of \$8.00 |
| **Total** | \$10.23 | The lines added |
| **You get** | \$17.01 | Sale price minus Amazon's selling fees |

![The open Total fees list: Referral fee \$2.98, FBA fulfillment fee \$4.92, Storage fee (0.02 cu ft x 1 months) \$0.04, Inbound placement fee (estimated) \$0.50, Inbound shipping \$0.00, Prep \$0.00, Sales tax \$0.00, Total \$8.44, You get \$11.92.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/15-hairdye-total-fees.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=9f057f3f82af42384f868f8c3a0b0937)

Hair dye: Total fees, opened. The lines are the demo product's: referral $2.98, fulfillment $4.92, storage $0.04, placement $0.50 (estimated). Notice Total $8.44 and You get $11.92.

Toys & Games charges 15% of the whole price, so 15% of \$25.00 is \$3.75. The fee is never under \$0.30, and at \$25.00 the 15% is already over that floor. Fees round to the nearest cent.

The \$4.00 fulfillment fee is Amazon's quote for this one sale. The panel does not rebuild it from the box size.

**Storage fee** is the box's cubic feet, times Amazon's monthly rate, times the months. 12 × 12 × 1.2 inches is 0.10 cubic feet. October through December, standard-size storage is \$2.40 a cubic foot, so 0.10 × \$2.40 is \$0.24.

January through September the rate is \$0.78, so this same box is \$0.08. Turn on **Use peak storage fees** and every month uses \$2.40. Set **Months in storage** to 0 and the line is left out.

The size on the line is rounded to two decimals, but the fee uses the full size. Here both give \$0.24. A very small box can show a size near 0 and still have a fee.

**Inbound placement fee** is what Amazon charges to place the unit in its warehouses. Your recent boxes can set a real fee per unit. This store has none, so the line says **estimated**. The hover starts with **An estimate: the seller has no recent boxes for SourceDock to learn from.**

The short side is 1.2 inches. That is over the 0.75-inch small-box limit, so this is a large standard box. Placement then uses a shipping weight.

The scale says 1.00 lb. The size weight is 12 × 12 × 2 ÷ 139, about 2.07 lb. The 2-inch stand-in is only for that size weight. The heavier one wins.

About 2.07 lb falls in the band up to 3 lb. The hover goes on: "Amazon lists \$0.34 to \$0.60 for this size and weight, depending on where the shipment goes. SourceDock uses the highest. Amazon sets the exact fee when the shipment is created."

**Amazon-optimized shipment splits (\$0)** makes this fee \$0, and the line is left out. That holds only while your store has no recent boxes. Once it has some, the panel uses the real fee per unit from those boxes, whichever choice you pick. **Partial shipment splits** is only for bulky items. On a standard box, the panel uses the Minimal rate. The hover says **Amazon offers Partial shipment splits for bulky items only, so this uses the Minimal shipment splits rate.**

**Inbound shipping** uses the scale weight, 1.00 lb, not the 2.07 lb size weight. You set \$0.50 a pound, so 1.00 × \$0.50 is \$0.50.

Leave **Inbound shipping per lb** blank, and a rate from your store's recent US boxes can fill in. The **Inbound shipping** line's hover then says "Shipping to Amazon: \$0.50/lb, from the seller's recent boxes. Change it in Account > Features." A blank box with no store rate is \$0.00.

If you set a rate and Amazon gives no weight, a **Weight (lb)** box shows and the profit waits. The line says **Type the weight (lb) to add inbound shipping**.

**Prep** is \$0.50, your setting. It starts at \$0.00.

**Sales tax** is 8% of \$8.00. 8% of 800 cents is 64 cents, or \$0.64. The tax rounds to the nearest cent, and a blank cost has \$0.00 tax.

**Total** is \$3.75 + \$4.00 + \$0.24 + \$0.60 + \$0.50 + \$0.50 + \$0.64 = \$10.23.

**You get** is what Amazon pays after its selling fees: \$25.00 − \$3.75 − \$4.00 − \$0.24 = \$17.01. Prep, tax, inbound shipping, and the placement fee stay in **Total**, not in **You get**. On FBM, your shipping comes out of **You get** too.

Books, music, movies, video games, and software can add a **Closing fee** line, and sometimes **Other sale fees**. This toy has neither. If Amazon's quote did not split those out, the referral line's hover says **Includes any closing fee Amazon charges on books and media.**

This panel is one sale before you buy. It does not take off refunds. It does not add money Amazon pays back later.

## Exact fees and estimated fees

With your store connected, Amazon's quote gives the referral fee and the fulfillment fee. The panel prints no extra label for that.

With no store, US products use SourceDock's fee table. The line says **Estimated fees**, and its hover says **SourceDock's fee table for this kind of product. Connect the store and Amazon gives the exact ones.** The link says **Connect your store for exact fees**.

If Amazon's grant for the store has ended, the link says **Reconnect Amazon for exact fees**. Its hover says **SourceDock can't reach Amazon for this store.**

On a site with no fee table and no Amazon quote, you see **Connect your store to see fees for this Amazon site**. A blank fee is never shown as \$0.00.

Type a new sale price, and the referral fee is worked out again at that price. The fulfillment fee stays at Amazon's last quote until a new quote comes. While it is on the way, the line says **Updating...**.

If the new quote never comes, you see **Amazon's fees for this price didn't load, so these use estimated fees.** with **Try again**. The figures still use the price you typed.

## Profit, ROI, and margin

Profit is the sale price, minus Amazon's referral fee, minus the fulfillment fee, minus storage, minus your cost, minus prep, minus placement, minus inbound shipping, minus tax.

\$25.00 − \$3.75 − \$4.00 − \$0.24 − \$8.00 − \$0.50 − \$0.60 − \$0.50 − \$0.64 = \$6.77.

The same check is sale price minus **Total** minus **Your cost**: \$25.00 − \$10.23 − \$8.00 = \$6.77.

ROI is \$6.77 ÷ \$8.00. That is 84.625%, shown to one decimal as "84.6%". A new product uses cost only.

A product already in your Vault can use another rule saved on that row. One rule is profit divided by cost plus prep, placement, inbound shipping, and tax. The other is profit divided by the sale price.

Margin is \$6.77 ÷ \$25.00. That is 27.08%, shown as "27.1%". Margin always uses the sale price. It does not follow the ROI rule.

A blank **Your cost**, or 0.00, is not a free truck. It means the cost is unknown. Profit is still figured with \$0.00 as the buy cost, so here it is "\$15.41".

ROI then shows **—**. The hover says **No cost is typed, so there's no ROI to show. Until there is, only the profit goal colors the numbers.**

## Max cost and below your goals

**Max cost** is the most you can pay the store and still hit both goals. The goals are \$5.00 profit and 30% ROI. ROI is read the same way as the ROI figure, so here it is profit divided by the store price.

Amazon leaves \$17.01 after the referral fee, the fulfillment fee, and storage. That is **You get**.

Your extra costs, besides the store price and the tax, are prep \$0.50, placement \$0.60, and inbound \$0.50. That is \$1.60.

The profit goal leaves \$17.01 − \$5.00 − \$1.60 = \$10.41 for the store price plus tax. Tax is 8%, so the price is \$10.41 ÷ 1.08, cut down to \$9.63. The ROI goal allows more, about \$11.16. The lower one wins, so the start is \$9.63.

Tax is charged in whole cents, so the panel then tries one cent more. At \$9.64, the tax is \$0.77. The full cost is \$9.64 + \$0.77 + \$1.60 = \$12.01.

Profit is then \$17.01 − \$12.01 = \$5.00. ROI is \$5.00 ÷ \$9.64, about 51.9%. Both goals clear. At \$9.65, profit is \$4.99, which misses \$5.00. So **Max cost** is "\$9.64".

Your \$8.00 is under \$9.64, so the cell is green. Type a cost over \$9.64 and the cell turns yellow. The hover says **The cost is above the max cost.**

If no store price can hit both goals, the cell says **Below your goals**. The hover names the goals: "At this price, no cost meets the goals in Settings (\$5.00 profit and 30% ROI)."

**Needs a price**, **Needs size**, and **Needs weight** show when a figure is missing. Anything else blank says **Not known**.

## Break-even price

**Break-even price** is the lowest sale price where profit is \$0.00 at your \$8.00 cost.

Your landed cost is \$8.00 + \$0.64 tax + \$0.50 prep + \$0.60 placement + \$0.50 inbound = \$10.24. The flat fees, which do not change with the price, are the \$4.00 fulfillment fee plus \$0.24 storage. That is \$4.24.

The panel searches the category's 15% bands for the lowest cent that still covers \$10.24 + \$4.24. At \$17.03, 15% rounds to \$2.55. \$17.03 − \$2.55 − \$4.24 − \$10.24 = \$0.00. At \$17.02, you are one cent short, so the cell shows "\$17.03".

The **Break-even** cell in Quick info is this same price. Its hover also names the break-even cost, "\$14.26". SourceDock works that cost out before tax is rounded to whole cents, then cuts it down to a cent. At \$14.26 you keep one cent.

If the category has no rate table, the panel will not make up a rate. It uses the rate in Amazon's fee quote at this price instead. The hover then says **Uses the referral rate from Amazon's fee quote at this price.** With neither, the price stays blank.

## The profit calculator

**Profit calculator** shows the same figures as rows. The order is **Your cost**, **Sale price**, **Fulfillment** (**FBA** or **FBM**), **Months in storage**, **Profit**, **ROI**, **Max cost**, **Total fees**, **Margin**, **Break-even price**, and **You get**. On FBM, a **Your shipping** row comes after **Fulfillment**.

![The Profit calculator: Your cost 6.91, Sale price 19.86, Fulfillment FBA, Months in storage 1, Profit \$4.51, ROI 65.3%, Max cost \$6.42, Total fees \$8.44, Margin 22.7%, Break-even price \$14.55, You get \$11.92.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/14-hairdye-calculator.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=bb753271dbd13ae2938b5d4aa47776e7)

Hair dye: the Profit calculator section. Notice Profit $4.51, ROI 65.3%, Max cost $6.42, Margin 22.7%, Break-even price $14.55 and You get $11.92.

**Total fees** is "\$10.23". Open it for the lines above. **You get** is "\$17.01" again at the bottom of that list.

**Months in storage** here saves back to your settings. It can be 0 to 36.

A bad money box says **Type a number, like 24.99**. A bad weight says **Type a number**. A sum that does not work says "That math doesn't work. Try one like 12.99\*2." The box keeps the last good value.

## Alerts

**Alerts** is three rows, always:

![The Alerts section: Hazmat Not known, Meltable Not known, Oversized No.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/16-hairdye-alerts.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=33bb5482b241e2b8f0f19c576b7101fa)

Hair dye: Alerts. Notice Oversized says No, and the two answers Amazon did not give say Not known.

| Row | This truck | Meaning |
| - | - | - |
| **Hazmat** | **No** | Amazon's listing does not mark it as dangerous goods. |
| **Meltable** | **No** | It is not marked as something that melts. |
| **Oversized** | **No** | It is inside standard size. |

**Yes** is red, and **No** is green. A row Amazon doesn't answer says **Not known**. Candy or gummies can say **Likely** when Amazon does not say. Chocolate says **Yes**.

A count badge shows only when a row is a warning. This truck has no badge.

## Offers

**Offers** lists live new offers, cheapest first, up to 20. The price is the item plus shipping. Each row uses your \$8.00 and the same fee math. Only the referral fee is worked out again at that row's price.

![The Offers list: 7 rows with FBA or FBM badges and prices from \$19.86 (Buy Box) to \$26.55, each with a profit and ROI, and the counts Offers: 7, FBA: 5, FBM: 2.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/17-hairdye-offers.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=8218610e83556602bdf2efce89f61e68)

Hair dye: Offers. Notice the Buy Box row on top, each offer's profit and ROI at your cost, and the counts Offers: 7, FBA: 5, FBM: 2.

The columns are **#**, **Seller**, **Price**, **Profit**, and **ROI**.

| # | Seller | Price | Profit | ROI |
| - | - | - | - | - |
| 1 | **FBA** **Amazon** **Buy Box** | \$25.00 | \$6.77 | 85% |
| 2 | **FBM** | \$20.00 | \$2.52 | 32% |

Row 1 is Amazon's offer. Point at its badge and the hover names the site, "Amazon.com". Its profit matches Quick info, \$6.77.

Its ROI says "85%", not "84.6%". Offers rounds ROI to a whole percent, so 84.6% becomes 85%. Quick info and the calculator keep one decimal.

Row 2 is the store "Harbor Toys". The Seller column shows only its **FBM** badge. Point at the badge to see the store's name.

Its price is \$20.00, and 15% of \$20.00 is \$3.00. The fulfillment fee stays \$4.00, storage stays \$0.24, and your costs stay the same. Profit is \$20.00 − \$3.00 − \$4.00 − \$0.24 − \$10.24 = \$2.52.

ROI is 31.5%, shown here as "32%". Profit is under \$5.00, so the row is yellow. The Quick info hover for that state says "Profit is below the \$5.00 goal".

Under the table you see "Offers: 2", "FBA: 1", and "FBM: 1". A fresh list says **Checked just now**. After that it says "Checked 3 min ago", with the minutes filled in.

**Show "You" in Offers** is on to start, so your own offer says **You**. Turn it off and that row looks like any other seller's. If an FBM seller holds the Buy Box, its tag says **Buy Box (FBM)**.

A seller with no ratings yet can say **New seller** or **No ratings yet**. A missing store name says **Store name not found in Amazon's list of sellers**. Another seller's FBA or FBM badge opens their store.

## The Buy Box pie

**Buy Box pie** is off until you turn it on under **Panel sections**. It stays closed until you open it, and only then does it load. It shows who held the Buy Box, from a daily copy of that history.

The buttons are **30 days** and **90 days**, and it starts on 30. The heading says "Last 30 days". A copy older than a day says the date instead, like "As of Oct 25".

Say Amazon held the box for 18 days, and Harbor Toys held it for 12 days. That is the whole 30 days someone held it. Time with nobody holding it is left out.

18 ÷ 30 is 60%, and 12 ÷ 30 is 40%. The shares are whole percents that add up to 100. The legend shows "Amazon.com" at 60% and "Harbor Toys" at 40%.

The middle of the ring shortens Amazon to **Amazon**. The hovers say "Held 18 days" and "Held 12 days". A share under 1% says **\<1%**, and under a day says **Held under a day**.

Your own store says **You**. A seller with no name shows **Seller** and the last 5 letters of its Amazon ID. The legend lists 6 sellers, most time first. The rest are counted, like "2 more sellers".

## Variations

**Variations** starts closed. Open it, and Amazon is asked for the other sizes and colors. Each row shows the sale price from your **Sale price used for profit** pick, the offer count, a rank, and a monthly estimate when there is one.

This page's row is tagged **This one**. A blue truck might show "\$22.00", "8 offers", and "#4,200 Toys & Games". The approval tag can say **You can sell**, **Needs approval**, or **Can't sell**. Click another row, and that product opens on Amazon.

If every row shares one rank, you see **Amazon shows one rank for all of these, so it can't say which one sells most.** A long family can say "Showing 8 of 24." If the Buy Box pie is on, each row has its own closed pie.

## Switch to FBM

Press **FBM**. The sale price becomes the lowest offer from a seller who ships it, here \$20.00. A **Your shipping** box shows, and you type \$3.00.

![Quick info with FBM on: Sold a month 300+, Max cost \$16.93, Your cost 6.91, Sale price 25.91, Your shipping Not counted, Profit \$15.11, Margin 58.3%, ROI 218.7%, Break-even \$7.51.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/19-hairdye-fbm.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=d16ca8a0086398479efaad3620bb1cdf)

Hair dye: Quick info after pressing FBM. Notice the sale price moves to the lowest seller-shipped offer, \$25.91, and Your shipping shows Not counted.

Left blank, it uses the FBM shipping saved in SourceDock. With none saved, shipping is \$0.00 and the box says **Not counted**. Profit still shows, so type your shipping.

FBM drops the fulfillment fee, storage, placement, and inbound shipping. It keeps the referral fee, a closing fee, your shipping, prep, and tax. Toys have a \$0.00 **Closing fee**, and the line still shows.

**Total fees** is \$3.00 + \$0.00 + \$3.00 + \$0.50 + \$0.64 = \$7.14.

Profit is \$20.00 − \$3.00 − \$3.00 − \$8.00 − \$0.50 − \$0.64 = \$4.86.

ROI is \$4.86 ÷ \$8.00 = 60.75%, shown as "60.8%". Profit is under \$5.00, so the cells are yellow.

**You get** is \$20.00 − \$3.00 − \$3.00 = \$14.00.

**Max cost** uses the same two goals, with prep and your \$3.00 shipping as the extras. It is "\$7.87". **Break-even price** is "\$14.28". The hover's break-even cost is "\$12.50", and at \$12.50, profit on this FBM sale is \$0.00.

The **FBA** / **FBM** switch is saved to your settings. FBM stays on for the next product, and Find's rows use it too, until you switch back.

FBM profit is only for a store that sells in US dollars. On another currency you see **FBM profit shows for stores that sell in US dollars**.

## Find on Amazon

On a store page, click the SourceDock icon, or use the shortcut. The suggested key is Alt+Shift+F. You can also right-click and pick **Find on Amazon with SourceDock**.

Find reads that page's product name, barcode, and price, only when you use it there. It sends the name and the barcode to look the item up. The price stays on your computer. Find searches are not saved to your SourceDock account. The last list for each store site stays in this browser until you close it.

The first time, if you agreed before Find existed, you see the Find consent and **I Agree**. **See what's collected** opens Settings, and **Privacy** there shows the list.

The store page shows "Red Hauler Toy Truck" at \$8.00. **From this page** shows the name, and **Search** holds the words. **Cost** starts at "8.00". Its help says **What you pay at the store. It starts at the store's price. Change it and every profit updates.**

Leave **Cost** blank and every row's profit is **—**. Type 0 and the rows use a \$0 cost. If the page shows no price, the line says **Type your cost**. A store priced in another currency says "This store's price is in CAD. Type your cost in USD.", with the money names from the page.

During the search, the count says **Searching…**. The page card says **Reading this page…** while it reads. When the search is done, the count says "3 on Amazon".

Each row uses the Profit tab's math, with your settings and this cost. Nothing is typed over the sale price. A row for this same truck shows "+\$6.77" and "84.6% ROI". Find puts a plus on a profit, and the calculator does not.

The tags can say **Same UPC**, **Name match**, **You can sell**, **Needs approval**, or **Can't sell**.

The three sorts:

* **Best match** puts a one-for-one listing first. **Same UPC** comes before **Name match**. A title that agrees on the pack or the size comes before a title that says nothing. Amazon's own order breaks ties.
* **Most profit** sorts those one-for-one rows by profit, high to low. A row with no profit goes last.
* **Sells most** sorts by the monthly estimate, high to low. Ties go to the better sales rank, which is the lower number.

A pack tag like "Pack of 6", a **Bundle**, or a size tag like "30 vs 50 sheets" goes under every one-for-one row, in all three sorts. Its profit used one truck's \$8.00, so it is not that listing's real profit.

Click a row and its Profit page opens here, with the store page still open. "‹ 3 matches" takes you back to the same spot. **Open on Amazon** opens the listing in a new tab.

## Vault

**Vault** is the form for a saved product. **ASIN** fills from the Amazon page. **Source link** fills from the store page you are on. **Buy cost** follows **Your cost** until you type here, so for this truck it is 8.00.

![The Vault tab: ASIN B07QMZ5JKX, an empty Source link box, Buy cost \$6.91, a green Update Vault item button, Open Vault, and Vault adds (128) with a search box and a list of products with prices.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/20-hairdye-vault-tab.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=2fac0f449d937ce81a96801441061364)

Hair dye: the Vault tab. Notice the ASIN from the page, Buy cost 6.91 from Your cost, and Update Vault item, because the hair dye is already in the Vault.

The button says **Save to Vault**. If the truck is already saved, it says **Update Vault item**. After a save you see **Saved to Vault**, **Updated in your Vault**, or **Already in your Vault**. **Open Vault** opens the Vault in SourceDock.

Below that, **Vault adds** lists recent rows. The search box says **Search ASINs**. An empty list says **No ASINs in your Vault yet**, and a search with no hit says **No matching ASINs**.

A bad form says one of these:

* **Enter a 10-character ASIN or an Amazon product URL.**
* **Source link is required.**
* **Source link is too long.**
* **Source link is not a valid URL.**
* **Buy cost is required.**
* **Buy cost must be a number 0 or greater.**
* **Buy cost is too large.**

## Purchase

**Purchase** is **Add purchase**. The plus on the product row opens it filled in.

![The Purchase tab: Add purchase, ASIN B07QMZ5JKX with the hair dye's picture and title, Quantity 1, Cost per unit \$0.00, Sales tax 0, Purchase date 10/30/2026, Store name, Order number, Source link, and an Add purchase button.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/21-hairdye-purchase-tab.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=bac0f428c1279729c24f34f63a0904d6)

Hair dye: the Purchase tab. Notice Add purchase with the ASIN and the product's picture and title filled in, and today's date.

**ASIN** is "B0HAULER01". **Quantity** is 2. **Cost per unit** is 8.00. **Sales tax (%)** starts at your 8% setting.

The line says "Saved as \$8.64 each, tax included." That is \$8.00 plus \$0.64. The purchase stores \$8.64 a unit, tax included.

**Purchase date**, **Store name**, **Order number**, and **Source link** follow. The store box's hint says **Walmart, Target...**, and you can type any store.

The button says **Add purchase**, then **Adding...**, then **Added to Purchases.** **Open in Purchases** opens that list.

A bad form says **Enter a 10-character ASIN or an Amazon product URL.**, **Type the quantity as a whole number.**, **Type the cost per unit.**, or **Type the sales tax as a percent, like 7.5.** A failed save says **SourceDock couldn't add the purchase. Try again.**

## Account and the same settings

**Account** shows **Connected** when you are signed in, plus your plan name: **Premier**, **Pro**, or **Flagship**. **Disconnect** signs the extension out.

![The Account tab: Connected with the plan name, a Disconnect button, then Settings with Used by the Vault and the extension, Prep per item, Inbound shipping per lb, FBM shipping cost (per unit) not set, Sales tax on cost, Lowest ROI you want 30, Lowest profit you want \$5.00, Months in storage 1, Use peak storage fees, and Inbound placement Minimal shipment splits.](https://mintcdn.com/sourcedock/dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I/images/deep-dives/chrome-extension-in-depth/22-hairdye-account-tab.png?fit=max\&auto=format\&n=dpj3qXH7J-lxwv5I\&q=85\&s=032c36f59ae56f60fbd51ae7bb5105eb)

Hair dye: the Account tab. Notice Connected and the plan, then the settings the Vault and the extension share, with FBM shipping cost (per unit).

Signed out, it says **Not Connected** and **Connect in SourceDock**. Open SourceDock while you are signed in, and the extension connects.

If Amazon's grant has ended, the card says **Amazon connection needs attention** and **Reconnect Amazon**.

Then comes **Settings**. The same form is on the Settings page, under **Profit panel**. A change in either place shows in the other at once.

These fields also live on **Account**, then **Features**, under **Profit calculator**. The parts there are **COSTS**, **GOALS**, **PRICING**, and **EXTENSION**.

A change writes one copy on your account, and each computer keeps a copy for offline use. On the next sync, the newest change wins. A change that has not reached the account yet is sent up, unless the account already has a newer one.

The shared fields are **Prep per item**, **Inbound shipping per lb**, **Sales tax on cost (%)**, **Lowest ROI you want (%)**, **Lowest profit you want**, **Months in storage**, **Sale price used for profit**, **Inbound placement**, **Use peak storage fees**, **Close Seller Central after a check**, **Show "You" in Offers**, and the **FBA** / **FBM** switch.

These stay on this computer: **Where the panel shows on Amazon**, **Panel sections** with **Reset to default**, and **Theme** (**Light** or **Dark**). Dark is the start.

The Buy Box pie row's help says **Who held the Buy Box in the last 30 or 90 days. Off to start. Once on, it loads only when its section is opened.**

When you work in Seller Central Canada, the side panel's **Account** tab can say **Selling in Canada? Let SourceDockIQ read sellercentral.amazon.ca so checks work there too.** The button is **Enable SourceDock on Seller Central Canada**. **Not now** hides it until you work on Canada again.

**Privacy** opens the data list. **Finish setup** shows until you agree.

## Verify

**Approval** can say **Needs approval** before you have checked the live page. **Verify** opens that product in Seller Central. While it runs, the row says **Checking in Seller Central...**, and its hover says **In Seller Central, pick New in the condition list.**

The extension reads the answer Amazon shows. It does not click buttons, pick options, type, submit forms, or apply for you. It does not change the page.

**Approved** means Amazon is letting you sell it. **Needs approval** stays, with the hover **Amazon wants documents or more details before the seller can sell this. Apply in Seller Central.** **Blocked** has the hover **Amazon isn't taking new sellers for this product right now.**

**Close Seller Central after a check** is on to start. The tab Verify opened then closes by itself. Tabs you opened stay open.

If Verify can't finish, point at **Needs approval** to see why: **SourceDock couldn't read Amazon's answer. Try again.** or **Another check is running. Try again when it's done.**

**Check now** is the other button, for a product not checked yet. It asks SourceDock, not a new Seller Central tab. It can say **Checking...** or **SourceDock couldn't check. Try again.** With no store, it says **Connect your store to check** or **Reconnect Amazon to check**.
